The Haven Shelter & Services, Inc located in Warsaw, VA has been providing services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking for over twenty years to the rural area of Virginia’s Northern Neck which spans over 1003 square miles and includes the counties of Essex, Lancaster, Northumberland, Westmoreland and Richmond. Services provided by The Haven include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, individual and group counseling, court and hospital accompaniment and public education. All services are provided free of charge.

The Haven has an annual budget of approximately $500,000.00. Approximately two-thirds of the cost to provide necessary services comes from state and federal grants. The Haven depends on the support of local businesses, individuals, churches, and organizations to provide the rest of the funding necessary to meet the needs of domestic and sexual abuse victims in our area.

The Haven must now obtain approximately $1,000,000 to build a new shelter to replace the old farmhouse which now serves as a safe refuge to an average of 100 individuals each year. Land for the new shelter has been obtained and plans have been developed. The campaign to raise the necessary funds is in the very early stages at this time and will go public during 2007.
